picoscope dependencies on Debian-based distros

Post by corna »

Hi
I'm on Debian testing and I want to install only the driver for my device (2205MSO) but, if I install the driver first (libps2000a) and then the package picoscope (as suggested in the Linux guide https://www.picotech.com/downloads/linux), apt installs forcefully every driver. I've looked at the package and I've noticed that all the drivers are marked as "Depends"; shouldn't you mark them as "Recommends" or "Suggests", so that a user can install only a single driver? Moreover apt installs by default every recommended package, so (if you mark them as "Recommends") the default behavior is left unchanged.
Thanks

We install all packages to ensure that any scope from our range can be supported. There are a few oddities in our driver numbering systems that could mean a user installing the wrong set for their scope, installing all prevents this from happening.

However, I will pass your comments to the development team for consideration.
