light sensor

Post by matt »

Hi,

I am looking for a data logger to measure light from a flash gun. I have read about the Dr DAQ but it did not say what its units are, and I would need something that can measure either joules or watts/meter squared and not lux, lumen, foot candle or anything like that.

Can you tell me if the Dr DAQ can do this?

Kind regards

I am afraid the DrDaq will be no use to you, the light sensor is really just for indication, is not in any particular units and is slightly temperature dependent.

Thanks Peter,

Do you know of anything that I could use?

Thanks again

The light sensor on the DrDAQ is a photodiode, it has no colour filter or focusing lens.
You will find graphs of 'Typical Photodiode Spectral Response Curves' on the internet.
As it has no focusing lens, over the area of the photodiode, this makes hard to calibrate the sensors intensity.
The light intensity measurements are radiometer.
You may find fitted your own lens and then comparing this to a calibrated light meter, may give better result which you could use to calibrate the level.
