USB noise in 2204A

Post by pkelecy »

Hi,

I have 2204A PicoScope (my first PicoScope) which I'm generally happy with. However, I'm using it with a laptop (for portability) and am seeing a significant amount of noise coming the laptops AC adapter (the noise goes away if I operate on the battery). But operating strictly on battery is not very convenient, as the battery only lasts several hours (then takes several more to recharge). I would really like to use it all day. I have the option of trading up to a 4224, but was wondering if I would see the same noise issue, given that it's also powered off the USB port. Being significantly more expensive, I thought it might filter the USB power better. Any thoughts? Any other work arounds I should consider?

Thanks for any help with this.

Hi Pat,

Are you capturing signals from another piece of equipment that is also connected to an electrical power supply?

There may be a grounding issue.

Regards,
