PicoLog Recorder crashes if I add a calculated variable

Post by strantor »

I am evaluating the tc-08 for an application reading thermocouples in an oven and a smoke stack. I have downloaded the software and I am playing around with it. I used 2 demo readings "thermocouple in oven" and "thermocouple in stack", assigned them +/- 100mv with scaling *25 to read +/- 2500°F. That works just fine, I see the numbers going up and down for the demo. Now, I want to add a calculated parameter of the difference between the two. I set A to oven, B to stack, equation to A-B, then when I click "OK" or "options" the program crashes & I have to go back in and add the parameters again (for some reason it's not saved in the PLW file? even though I save it right before I go into the calculated variables because I know it will crash).

This makes me wonder if my data would be saved should the computer crash or power outage. The application requires sampling every minute for months at a time. my toying around with the program seems to indicate that this could run continuously for 694 days. is that true? if so, would my data be saved should I lose power or laptop crash?
Thanks

Hi and thank you for your post.

The TC-08 is not intended to be used for months on end. There are ways to minimise any possible problems. For example you can have the test run for shorter periods of time and when it finishes it creates another file and runs immediately. Using this method, if anything goes wrong and the file becomes corrupt it will only be the last file.

To be honest for longer period testing you need the enviromon system however with this system you cannot do channel Maths you would have to do this on an excel sheet afterwards.

HI I cannot recreate this, is this problem repeatable? If so can you tell me what settings you had?

Dear all,

I am using the PicoLog Recorder using a TC-08 USB device and i chose 100 minutes for recording with the time intervals of 10S. It ran for 2490S which is about 250 readings and then crashed! The problem is after that, i cannot open Picolog Recorder! only Picolog Player is getting opened even when i am clicking on Picolog Recorder! Why is that crashing and why is that not possible to get back to the Picolog Recorder again?

Looking forward to hear from you soon.

Best Regards,

Amin

If the player launches when you expect to launch the recorder it means that an existing instance is already running. This will either be in the system tray at the bottom right as a PL icon, or a crashed process that you can see in task manager. I your situation I would suggest that latter and you would need to kill this in explorer.

As to why the program is crashing that would be more difficult. Are you using the Auto Reconnect feature to attempt a re-connection if the USB communication is temporarily lost, if so do you reconnect immediately or after a delay.
