Picoscope 2104 installs as Prolific Com4

Post by pcbolt »

Hi everyone.

I just recently acquired a Windows 8 machine and wanted to use it to run my Picoscope 2104 oscilloscope. I downloaded the software and it installed fine. However when I plugged the 2104 into the USB port, Win8 installed it as a USB Prolific serial port (COM 4). When I run PicoScope (6_r6_7_35), it fails to recognize any attached devices.

Any solution to this?

Does it work OK on a different PC ?

Is there anything elese connected to the USB ports ?
Have you tried different USB ports, preferably USB2 ones ?

Can you post the trace.xml file when Picoscope has failed to detect the scope. Let the detection fail and then close the application. You can find the file here

Code: Select all

Hi Martyn -

Thanks for the reply.

The Picoscope 2104 worked fine on Win2000 and Win XP. I just installed the software on those machines and plugged the 2104 in and it worked right away.

I have tried all the other USB ports (2 USB 2's and one USB 3) and the only other device I have plugged in is a USB mouse.

In the device manage I get this error for the COMM 4 port it created when I plugged the 2104 in...

"This device cannot start. (Code 10)
A device which does not exist was specified."

Here is the trace log...
