Question on RS232 decoding

Post by ZedHead »

Hi :)

I'm relatively new to the oscilloscope world. I used one in college for my nuclear engineering class and physics 2 class, but that's about it.

I'm trying to decode an RS-232 communication with my brand new Picoscope 2204. When i use the settings the instructor has on the picoscope video for decoding RS232/UART, i get a bunch of "junk" characters.

Could someone tell me what all this "junk" is?

Also, could you give me tips/settings on how to decode a proper signal? Like if i send a "echo hello > COM1" command in windows and see it decoded on the picoscope.

Thank you!

Please post a psdata file, File->SaveCurrentWaveformAs, showing the decoding that you are getting. We can then take a look and see what is going on.
