3207 USB 3.0 streaming mode limitation

Post by Croaker »

In current SDK documentation for 3207 /PS3000asdk_r10_5_0_19.zip/ I have read that there is a teoretical limit at up to 31.25 MS/s (32 ns per sample) in streaming mode.

Is this limit only for USB 2.0 connection or it is also applied to USB 3.0 connection?

And if this limit is only for USB 2.0 (in "Hi-Speed" mode), what limit we can expect for proper USB 3.0 (in "SuperSpeed" mode) connection in continuous streaming mode for PicoScope 3207B?

Thank you for your help!

The 3207, and all other devices supported by this SDK, can stream up to line rate subject to the capabilities of the PC. With USB3 we have found this varies from around 80MS/s upwards depending upon whether you are using an add on card (PCIe) or a port on the motherboard.

I have read that USB 3.0 has a "usable data rate of up to 4 Gbit/s." If I have 8 bit sampling, should I be able to get 500 MS/s with the 3207? Have you actually achieved that speed with a 3207? If not, what have you actually achieved and would should I expect as a practical limit assuming my PC system can handle it?

AWG w/ the 3207B.... Will I be able stream AWG at 100 MS/s through the USB 3.0? The output is single ended, correct? Spec says bandwidth is "> 1MHz." I really need a bandwidth of at least 6 MHz. Preferably 30 MHz. Any reason I shouldn't be able to get those bandwidths?

Thanks

We have run at ~220MS/s as our data transfers are 16bit, even though the scope samples at 8bit.

It is unclear what you mean by streaming AWG ?

The AWG waveform is made up of up to 32768 individual sample points, this waveform can be generated at frequencies up to 1MHz. This waveform is loaded into the scope and then generated within, it cannot be continually modified on the fly.
