Fatal error 206

Post by charlie@smartpower »

Hi - We have today had several crashes of the logger software reporting Fatal Error 206. This is on an old XP system with 3 TC-08 USB systems attached. We have never seen this issue before. One input is not a thermocouple but a PT100 which we have configured with an external supply and pot down and have entered in a lookup table to convert to temperatures. The issue occurs with both v5_22_1 and v5_22_8.
Any ideas anybody?

One other thing I should add. We were having issues with odd readings on the PT100 input which turned out to be a grounding issue. However in diagnosing this we installed the later version of the software I mentioned and ever since then have seen theis Fatal error issue even when uninstalling the new version and going back to the older version. Coincidence?

Hi Charlie,

The TC-08 is not designed for use with PT-100 sensors. Does the fatal error occur if you are only using thermocouples?

Also, you may have a corrupt settings file - navigate to the following directory:

C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Pico Technology\

To access the AppData folder and below you will need to be able to view hidden folders within Windows:
  • Go to C:\Users\ in Windows Explorer
  • Click Tools -> Folder options
  • Click the View tab, then under Hidden Files and Folders, select the tickbox to 'Show hidden files and folders', then click 'OK'.
In the Pico Technology folder there will be one or more folders with a long alphanumeric name. Please look for the Recorder.pls or settings.pls file and delete them.

Are there any messages with the error? If you navigate to Control Panel -> Performance and Maintenance -> Administrative Tools -> Event Viewer you might find something in the logs.

Please post the information here or send it to support@picotech.com

Thanks,

Hi Hitesh, We appreciate the TC-08 isn't designed for PT100's as such so we have an external supply and pot down chain to create a low amplitude signal. We have then configured the software with a LUT corresponding to the conversion which seems to work well.
We battled through and got the results we needed but next time we test (probably later on in the week) we will have a look at the logs. FYI we had found the corrupted settings file issue in another thread but that didn't seem to cure the issue we experienced.

Hi Charlie,

It's worth running the software using an Administrator account if you are not already doing so in case there is a permissions issue going on.

Have you got a settings file saved somewhere in your user account (you can save a settings file by clicking File -> Save as and choosing the settings files (*.pls) option.

Regards,
