Vertical Resolution

Post by timo.bernard »

Hi there,

does anyone know with what kind of vertical resolution the PS3000 sdk c console example works? I am wondering about the high measuring fluctuation, even when the signal is stable (am using the PicoScope 3206 in streaming mode and 1 khz sampling rate).
Is there actually an option to switch from 8 to 12 bit like in the PicoScope 6 software?

Thanks a lot in advance!

Best wishes,

Timo

The 3000 series are 8 bit scopes, they can only provide 8 bits of data per reading. The increase up to 12 bits in Picoscope6 (Resolution Enhancement) is performed in the software on the PC by using a flat moving average filter, and so there is nothing stopping you adopting this approach in your own application. If you average 4 values you will get an additional 1 bit resolution, 16 values 2 bits, 64 values 3 bits and 256 values 4 bits.
