i tried to work with PicoScope 5.21.1 / ADC-212/100 / USB-Parallel-Adpater from '2-Link' Type: MM05 (see here http://www.2-link.de/index.php?artno=MM005), but it doesn't work. I tried with WinXP Prof. SP3 and WinXP Prof. SP3 in a virtual machine. During installation i selected ADC-212 and tick the box "Install for ohter devices". I tried with LPT1 and USB PP1. If we will start the software, the following message occurs: "ADC-212 wurde nicht gefunden" in English: ADC-212 was not found.
We have had to stop manufacturing our own brand USB to parallel converter because an essential integrated circuit is no longer available. NO other USB to parallel adapter from another manufacturer will work with our devices. So far, we have only been able to get our parallel products working using plug-in PCI or PCI-Express cards in desktop PCs and Cardbus or Expresscard adapters in laptops.
You will need to use Windows XP or later & you should be using the latest version of PicoScope5/PicoLog, available here on our website:-
Please be aware that NONE of our parallel port devices will work under a 64 bit operating system under any circumstances (XP, Vista or Win 7).
This latest version of PicoScope5/PicoLog (& PicoScope6 automotive on the ADC-212 only) should work with most PCI, PCI express & Cardbus (PCMCIA) parallel port cards that provide an LPT port in the devices list. A card which just provides USB printing support only will not work. One way of checking this is that the correct type of adapter card requires a driver provided by the manufacturer whereas the wrong type does not and installs using a generic Windows driver. Examples below from one manufacturer we have tested.
Feed-back from a customer wanting an adapter for his laptop:-
"My experience of the StarTech device EC1UP was that it did not provide an LPT1 port in the devices list. It worked well if you had a parallel printer connected. This is the reply I got back from the states, as follows;
Thank you for your inquiry! The card that you have purchased offers USB printing support only. We do however carry a different model card that will detect and install in the system as a standard LPT port. The model that you would need is our EC1PECPS which can be found here:- http://www.startech.com/item/EC1PECPS-1 ... sCard.aspx
I purchased a StarTech EC1PECPS ExpressCard IEEE 1284 parallel adapter and it works perfectly."
Hi,
Would it be possible for Pico to tell us the part number of their old USB converter? And a schematic? I've got quite a good selection of older usb devices and I'd love to use my adc212 on my win7 laptop, which only has usb ports. No cardbus/express bus.
Do you have any windows driver source code you could make available so I could attempt to program a USB enabled PIC to emulate a parallel port?
Thanks
Chris
I don't have a part number to hand but we are unable to provide a schematic or driver source code as it proprietary. The reason for discontinuing the adaptor as you will have seen earlier in this thread was that a necessary component had become obsolete.
If you wish you can send your laptop model number to support@picotech.com and we can take a look at the specification.
I'm afraid we are unable to provide any assistance with implementing an adaptor. It is something that has already been investigated here but we are unable to provide information as it is proprietary.
The only viable solutions would be to either use a PC/laptop with a native parallel port or PCI/PCI Express/Cardbus/PCMCIA slot to use a parallel port card, or alternatively consider purchasing a new USB PC Oscilloscope - you may wish to look at the PicoScope 2206 or if you require 12-bit resolution, the PicoScope 4226.
