settings for the picoscope's window

Post by Jisset »

Hello,
I'm trying to set the position and size of the main window of Picoscope.
Because I want to help the final user to have it on a accurate position and not overcovering other information on the screen.
I was not able to find any configuration file and not key in the registry hives (like HKCU\Software...\Pico /v iWindowPosX ...)
But I know that positions and size are saved somewhere because the Application returns allways to its last position and size (but not the one that I prefer !).

Who can help me ?

It's the prefernces.xml file you can find in the folder at this location on Win7

C:\Users\LoginName\AppData\Local\Pico Technology

Thanks Martyn, (works as expected)

I don't have allways in mind the AppData\Local location ...

Now I'm trying to automatically :
- start picoscope,
- record a measurement (a screen wide is enough),
- save it with an indexed name,
... and repeat the same, few time later.

Does somebody know a way ? (I don't have any more idea except to make a macro of my mouse & keyboard actions with the usual software)
(Ok, ok : data loggers exist for this function ...but my need is not regular just to debug a situation)

Hi Jisset,

Please try the following:
  • Start PicoScope
  • Set up the channels as required
  • Set up PicoScope for Save on Trigger (use a single trigger with appropriate timebase - refer to the video below as well)

  • Click File -> Save Current Waveform As...
  • In the Save As dialog, change the 'Save as type' to 'Settings files (*.pssettings), then save the settings.
  • Close the PicoScope 6 window.
  • Open a command prompt window and type the following: picoscope [name_of_settings_file].pssettings (minus the square brackets).
For more options type picoscope /? into the command prompt dialog.

Hope this helps.

I rarely received answers so fast and effective on a forum ! Thanks.

It opens me of new perspectives and I will consider to make a less basic use of the picoscope...

Kind regards

Hitesh

No problem :)

One thing to note with Save on Trigger is that you can specify to add the buffer or time to the file name (insert %buffer% or %time% in the file name) to help avoid overwriting files - please refer to the Help option in the Alarms dialog.

Best wishes,

For next, I will visit other topics : I'm learning now to use the SDK.
