Anything like picoscope on the Mac
Anything like picoscope on the Mac
Your products were highly recommended, and look great.
Since you don't support Mac, I'm wondering if you can recommend any similar products on the Mac, or third party software that works with your hardware?
As other forum users have said, BaseCamp isn't an option if you want to use your computer for other things at the same time, and Parallels is a disaster.

Hi mitra,
You might be able to use virtualisation software such as VMWare Fusion to run a Windows OS on your Mac and run the PicoScope software that way.
Alternatively, you can set up a dual-boot system with a Windows OS if your Mac has Intel hardware.
Hope this helps.

Re: Anything like picoscope on the Mac
Hi Hitesh - as others have commented on this forum and elsewhere, for Mac users running virtualisation software doesn't work for all kinds of reasons.
Boot-Camp takes over your entire machine - so for example in my application I'd lose my programming environment and means to upload code to the device.
Pretty much anything else that runs simultaneously is fraught with problems - I've had Parallels crash my mac too many times to be worth risking, and I've heard similar about VMWare, and - as people have noted on this forum your software/hardware combo doesn't seem to run under those environments.
This is why I asked what the best Mac alternative is ? I'd love to run your products, but you don't support the software environment that many of us use . Especially here in San Francisco where I'd guess its well over 50%

Hi mitra,
Although we have had enquiries, we have had insufficient demand in order to commit development time for providing a solution for the Mac.
If demand is sufficient, we may look into this further in the future.
Best wishes,

Re: Anything like picoscope on the Mac
I think you should re-consider Parallels. I've been running CAD (SolidWorks) on Windows XP under Parallels, on an Intel Mac, for about seven years without any problems at all -- two different machines, several different versions of SW.
As for Pico devices running in a virtual environment, I can't say. I have had one experience with a hardware device not functioning properly when run under virtualization, so it's obviously possible that there could be issues. But, in general, I've been surprised at how seamless hardware integration has been.

Re: Anything like picoscope on the Mac
I'd like to add a voice for the demand for Mac OS X support.
There are lots of USB oscilloscopes on the market. I've only found one brand that has native Mac support (Bitscope).
I would rather not buy a Parallels license and a Windows license just to run an oscilloscope software. I imagine they might cost as much as the oscilloscope taken together. I think most Mac users want a native solution.
A good OS X software would give you a unique selling point, and I am sure there are lots of users like myself who have looked at the various USB scopes out there and given up on getting one because of the lack of Mac support.
You could publish the USB protocol specification, and if you're lucky someone might write the software for you.
If you do decide to develop some OS X software, send me an E-mail and I will consider buying one of your scopes.

This is not currently on the development plan although we continue to raise the question with the development team.

Re: Anything like picoscope on the Mac
Please add my voice to the petition for Mac support! I am a field service technician. I don't need an oscilloscope very often, but still have to carry one for the occasional test. I would like to downsize my tool case for travel purposes, so am looking at USB scopes.
I use a Macbook Pro and I am running parallels on it. I may try the picoscope anyway--but I'm skeptical after reading the posts.

Hi KElliot,
We currently do not have a release of Picoscope for MAC, please contact support@picotech.com for more information.
Any information on your application and the oscilloscope range that you are interested in may be helpful.
You can also try running the PicoScope 6 software on your Windows Guest operating system in Demo mode if you wish.
Many thanks,

Re: Anything like picoscope on the Mac
I should like to add my plea for pico to create a Mac OS X version of its software.
Further to this, you might consider adding support for the iPad as well. The forthcoming new version of OS X is moving closer to iOS, so that developing for the Mac ought to be similar to developing for the iPad or iPhone.
I have looked at BitScope, which is attractive because it is cross-platform (Mac OS X, Linux, and Windows). However, BitScope appears to be a lower-end product, whereas pico strikes me as a more professional grade product.
Thank you for your consideration of this request.

I would like to second, third or fourth this request.
Mac and Ipad software would be extremely useful.
