Information about measuring and logging temp. & humidity

Post by MartinduPlooy »

I have a requirement to measure and record the temperature and humidity of a simplistic environmental test chamber (self-built iso-board insulated chamber).

The dimensions of the insulated chamber is 1000x500x500mm (250 liter).

The operational conditions of the chamber: Temp. 35 – 70 deg.C
(for this particular test) Humid. 80 – 100%

From what I have ascertained so far, I need a sensor, input signal converter and a data logger. My knowledge in this field is too limited for me to make a choice of which sensor one should use with which converter or data logger.

We use to have a PICO data logger, but it was stolen. The person that setup up the whole installation has since left our company.

Can you please advise me on a suitable installation for my requirement. I want to be able to measure and record the temp./humid. at three different locations at once. I only need to control the temperature. I will be doing this with a Temp. controller.

Is there any DIY way of measuring and logging Humidity and temp.

Your assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Hitesh

Hello Martin,

Looking at your description, it would be helpful to know the following:
  • How often you wish to sample data.
  • How long you wish to record data for.
  • How far the PC is from all the chambers.
We have a couple of devices that can be used for temperature and humidity measurements:

Humidiprobe: http://www.picotech.com/humidiprobe.html

DrDAQ (with external temperature and humidity sensors): http://www.drdaq.com/

There are also temperature logging devices:

TC-08 Thermocouple Data Logger: http://www.picotech.com/thermocouple.html

PT-104 Data Logger: http://www.picotech.com/pt100.html
