TC-08 Serial to USB

Post by Yannis »

Hi,
I have a TC-08 on serial. Can I use it on USB as I don't have any other serial port.
Regards

Hello,

You can use a USB Serial port adapter for this purpose.

We recommend our adapters as we have tested them and confirm they supply the required power of our Serial port devices.

My TC-08 does not keep working with a USB to serial adapter. The TC-08 would not work, even grounding the case, with a Vista computer serial port. The device was never found. However with a Cables Unlimited USB to Serial adapter the TC-08 was found right away on the new serial port. However, after a couple minutes of recording temperatures the recording stops. I only get one or two data points.

With the USB adapter I can finally run the TC-08 from a laptop. But on the Windows 7 laptop the recording stops after a couple minutes also. How can we keep the TC08 working?

Hi the serial TC-08 requires pin 7 is held positive at > 7V and pin 4 is held negative < -7 V. This is under load.

Some USB to serial converters cannot supply this.

We sell the following device as we have tested it:

I observe exactly the same problem. I am using a different USB to serial converter, which worked fine on another PC.
On the laptop I have to use now, recording stops and the programm freezes after variing spans of time.
My question is: Can there be other reasons for that and if so what should I try to do in order to get my data recorded properly?

That suggests that the voltages are borderline. You may be able to adjust the advanced power settings for your laptop, disabling unused devices, to improve the stability. However there will always be the risk of it stopping at any time.
