Feature request: power down 2105

Post by Steven Brown »

I've been using the handheld PicoScope 2105, and after setting it down on the desk, I was surprised how warm it was, almost hot, when I picked it up again. I could not find a way to turn off the probe while leaving the PicoScope 6 software running, displaying a captured waveform. I would like to be able to click a button to turn the probe off, allowing it to cool down between readings. Clicking the stop button does not cause it to cool down; only closing the application does that.

I tried browsing the SDK to find a function I could call from an applet I could program in C to turn the probe off or on, but I could find no such function.

Hi the probe can get warm when in operation due to the small enclosure, the only way to cool it down really is by closing the software or calling the close unit function if you are writing the software. However it should not really get hot.

Kind regards

Ziko, the probe gets uncomfortably warm in my hand. The point of my post was not to ask the question "how do I cool the probe down?", it was to request that a new feature be added to PicoScope6 to turn the probe off and back on again, without closing the software. There could be a button to click to turn the probe off or on. I am a programmer, and I know that it is possible to do that. What I do now is close the software to let the probe cool down, but it is time consuming to launch PicoScope6 again. I would like to be able just to click a button to turn the probe back on, take a reading, then click a button to turn the probe back off, so that it does not heat up. This feature would be a big improvement to the software.

Thank you for the suggestion Steven, I will pass this to the development team for consideration in a future release of the software.
