Hi, I am Jonathan from Dupont Teijin Films in Dumfries, I have posted a few times trying to get existing hardware to work. We have now decided that we are going to have to upgrade.
The hardware will need to be used on two systems, so we will require approximately 5 devices including backups.
The first system is recording the voltage from a Digital Impulse Sound Level Meter outputting a DC voltage. We previously used the 12 bit ADC100 for this, converting the voltage to decibels.
The two questions for this are 8 bit vs 12 bit, would lowering to 8 bit really lower our accuracy? What would you recommend and why?
Secondly is it possible to capture exactly 60000 samples over exactly two minutes on two channels with the device.
The second system is connected to a thickness measurement device also producing a DC voltage, and also being outputted to a 12 bit ADC100.
The question is again 8 bit vs 12 bit, it is measuring film to Micron level, say the film was 100 micron, what would the accuracy difference be, provided the signal from the measurement device was perfect, and why.
Thanks for any advice, I am a programmer so my knowledge of a lot of these issues is lacking, any detail in explanations would be greatly appreciated.
