Resolution bandwith spectrum

Post by klc »

Ordinary spectrum analyzers specify their resolution bandwith (RBH).
Fx. 9 Khz, 120 Khz, and 1Mhz (hameg HM5530)
How can i see/select filter bandwith on my Picoscope. How does it relate to pico settings?

Another question that might relate. If i setup a sweep generator to sweep from, say 10Khz to 20Khz and look at the result in spectrum mode, the amplitude depends on sweep time. Slow sweep > high amplitude, fast sweep > low ampluitude.

Hi apart from the 6000 series there is no filtering available in specturm mode. The 6000 series has a 20MHz bandwidth limiter in hardware. Our devices are not meant to replace spectrum analyser rather give you a spectrum view.

In terms of the amplitude changing this is because we use FFT to do the spectrum view. With the FFT it does calculations for a duration of time and since you are sweeping too quickly this will result in an amplitude drop. A dedicated spectrum analyser works on a different principle.

Kind regards
