Multipe Users with the same settings

Post by tanslep »

Hi

I look after many computers which run different experiments with dataloggers and I was wondering if the same settings can be applied to each user, no matter who logs on.

e.g. if one experiment is set up in one users profile, can those settings be used when that user logs out and another user logs in

tanslep,

The easiest way to accomplish this would be to simply have the users save their files in a central location that all can access. Then to retrieve the settings the other users simply have to open the prior logs.

Another (easy) way is to make the settings file (.PLS) read only and then in Windows assosiate it with PicoLog.exe.
1) Create a settings file and give it a meaningfull name.
2) Make it Read Only in File Properties.
3) Right click the PLS file in File Explorer > Open With > Choose Program > PLW32 and 'tick' "Always use this program to open these files".

Now anyone can start the PicoLog program with the same settings as when the file once was saved if he double clicks on the settings file (PLS file).

Hint: Keep a change log file and the old files in an archive folder. Rename the old files with a serial version number or date.

If you need to alter settings, of course you have to make the file writeable again before starting the program.
