Using RS485 for connection to PicoScope

Post by Chris Stamford-Burrows »

Hi
We have an application for PicoScope where we may have to convert from USB to RS485 to get some range between PicoScope and the PC.
(We have used Ethernet via Belkin Hub, but we may now be unable to use Ethernet).

Can you tell us if RS485 will have sufficient bandwidth to communicate with PicoScope? We will be looking at pulses of around 1.25mS long being delivered at around 50Hz.

There is no requirement to 'measure' the pulses, just to identify them on the scope. (We also have to deliver them as audible clicks - but that is another challenge).

Hi,
We have no experience of using RS485 to USB converters and I doubt that it would be at all possible. There would not be enough bandwidth to make a reliable connection.

PeterF.
