PT100 cable

Post by Marion »

I am interested in the temperature measurement with the PT100 element (SE012) and the PT-104 Data Logger. But in oder to use it in my application I need to install a electrical feed-through connector in the PT100 cable. My question is therefore:
Can I cut the 2m cable of the PT100 and put a plug inbetween without loosing accuracy in the measurements? Or even shorten or lengthen the cable?
Thanks.

Extending PT100 cables

Post by matthew »

Sorry it took a while to get back to you on this Marion, I needed to discuss some safety aspects with one of our electrical engineers.

The extension itself is no problem, our PT100s are 4 wire and hence are compensated for changes in cable resistances. The question arises that you may be using the PT100 probe in an 'intrinsically safe' environment (feed through connectors are sometimes used to isolate environmental chambers).

If you are using an 'intrinsically safe' environment, bear in mind that our products are not designed for this, which could pose a safety risk.

I hope this information helps you in your application.
