Cable extension PT-104 logger

Post by EelcoS »

We have a PT-104 logger with four SE012 probes.
For a certain measurement I need to do, the cable length of the probes (2m) is a little bit too short (4m needed).
Is there any option to extend the cable length with a few meters, e.g. a standard extension cable?
Does cable extension have significant impact on the measurement accuracy?

Hi EelcoS,

If you contact our helpdesk at support@picotech.com, we can order a cable extenders for you.

The extenders will have a negligible effect on the accuracy of the Probes as they are 4 wire probes.

Ordinarily though, (e.g. for 2-wire PT1000 Probes) an extension of the cable will have an impact on the accuracy as the sensor element itself is effectively a 100 resistor (at 0.01°C) and only changes a tiny amount for a comparatively large change in temperature. So, even a small addition of resistance to the measurement, which is easy to create with a lead extension, will make a significant enough change in the temperature measurement. However using a 4-wire PT100 Probe enables the PT-104 data logger to gauge how much extra resistance the connecting lead adds to the resistance of the sensor element, and adjust the calculation to compensate.
