Fails to start if any other FTDI devices are plugged in.

Post by KennyM »

PicoScope fails to start if there are any devices plugged in which use the FTDI Chipset / Driver.

I have to unplug all my RS232 and RS485 dongles and make sure only the PicoScope 2105 is plugged in before PicoScope will start.

Otherwise I get an error which says:
"No suitable device was found, would you like to select a demo device to use?"

If you answer YES to that question, then PicoScope bombs out with an appplication error.

Hi Kenny,

I do not know exactly what FTDI Chipset / Driver is exactly but it seems to me it is something like an RS232 to USB devices using that chipset. I have used RS232 adapters but not sure what chipset they use and they work fine.

What version of the sofware are you using also what operating system are you using and are there any service packs on it?

Kind regards

Just to add to the above, we do not use any devices by FTDI in your PicoScope 2105 so what you are describing is odd. I dont think we have had this reported before.

Is it possible you have an odd / corrupt driver for an FTDI device installed?

Alan

Hi

It seems that PicoScope fails to enumerate the USB devices when a FTDI device is attached. Debug print shows that an exception is thrown during enumeration.

I have started a thread i the Getting started section about the same problem. I have also posted the print out there.

Alan,
So sorry for the delay in replying. I thought I had subscribed to this topic, but obviously I didn't!

Are you suggesting that you DO use FTDI chips in other Pico devices? Maybe it's has something to do with the option to install drives for other scopes that you get when installing PicoScope?

Either way, looks like a driver clash somewhere.

Hi I notice a couple of forum posts about the FTDI problem so I decided to purchase one.

I tried it out and we managed to recreate the problem. On of our software engineers has sorted the problem out and it will be out in the next release.

Kind regards

Hi

Yes, this has been fixed. Download and install the latest version of PicoScope 6.
