Best settings for audio spectrum?

Post by unfrostedpoptart »

Hi all.

I just got the 3203b MSO and will mostly be using it for audio work. I'm checking some filter responses so I set up the AWG to sine wave swept from 100Hz to 20KHz and opened a Spectrum Window.

First, it's a real pain to have to interactively set the frequency range down to 20Hz - 20KHz since it defaults to 50MHz! Can I enter the range as numbers instead of playing with the zoom window?

Next, I can't get it to display 20Hz - 20KHz with the X axis set to Log10. How do I do this? Should I / can I lower the sampling rate to around 1MHz for audio work? Would this help?

Thanks for your help!!!

David

ps - I have a MacBook Pro (10.13) and a Dell laptop (Win 10) and have tried the latest stable versions of PicoScope on both.

Hi unfrostedpoptart,

You don't need to zoom in to the Spectrum Mode plot in order to restrict the range to 20kHz. All you need to do is select 20kHz from the drop down table in the Spectrum range drop down window. If you then want to display the X-axis logarithmically from 20Hz, all you need to do is select the log 10 option in the X-Scale drop down list. The default number of decades is 4, which will give you a starting point of 10Hz.

Great - that's what I wanted! Still learning the software since many things work differently than on a hardware 'scope.
