Fast sensor to measure snow temperature

Post by Guest »

I am looking for a temperature probe that can be pushed through a snow pack to measure the temperature of the snow as it is pushed. The sensor must take measurements very quickly in order to get accurate measurements at the speed the probe is being pushed. The temperature range would be about -15 to 5 degrees celcius.

Is there anything available to do this? I was looking at the PT100 sensors?

Thank you,
Vicki

Hi,
The difficulty is that you will need a robust probe but with very low thermal mass. A thermocouple or a thermistor will be small enough but you will have to get it packaged into a suitable probe case strong enough to push through the ice to the depth you need. A specialist thermoprobe manufacturer should be able to help.
Try:-

They can also sell you suitable loggers for it.
