Pico+ACE Misfire Detective Automotive 2 Channel Scope Kit

Post by JorgeGarciaA »

Hi, everyone.
I'm interested in buy the Pico + ACE misfire package and the Mixmaster 12-channel Automotive Signal Mixer for more diagnostic capabilities, i never use an oscilloscope before,in fact this is going to be my first one so i'm new on this.

the objective is to make more efieciently diagnostics in my shop and take advantage of the new technologies.

Can you tell me if i'm going to need more diagnostics leads or something else that does'nt come with this package for example diagnostic 3 or more sensors at the same time.

Thankyou for your understanding and response.

Jorge,

Welcome to automotive scope diagnostics.

It is often said that you need a 'starter scope' as a beginner and then upgrade later to a better one. I have never understood this. Seems a waste of time and money to me.

No matter what you get, you will need to invest some time to learn to operate it. If you plan on getting serious about scope work, then why not cut your teeth on the best. Then you only have to buy it once and the time invested will be better spent. You can learn some bad habits with a lesser piece of equipment that will then have to be unlearned.

PicoScope is the most powerful automotive scope available.

Can you tell me if i'm going to need more diagnostics leads or something else that does'nt come with this package for example diagnostic 3 or more sensors at the same time.
My advise would be to get the complete four channel kit and, add to that the other things you want. The complete four channel kit will have everything you need to get started. Other things needed depend on the vehicles you work on most often

Be sure to also check out the free addon..Pico Diagnostics:

Pico direct support is great. You may also want to research a distributor that can supplement that with more automotive specific in depth support and training.

Jorge,

Automotive lab scope diagnostics will open up a whole new world for you. Since you are a beginner, you’ll need some help getting started. I can assure you that the Autonerdz experience is well worth checking into.

If you haven’t already, check out the community forums here:

http://www.autonerdz.com/cgi/yabb2/YaBB.pl

To access the General Technical Discussion section you will need to be registered which is free. We have a great bunch of professional auto techs from around the world that contribute case studies for everyone to learn from. Additionally, there is a special PicoScope section for our customers with flash movie tutorials and much more.

This is not a substitute for the fine support here, only an exceptional supplement for automotive technicians.

Good Tools

Hi Jorge,

How do you tell the difference between a good tool and a bad tool? The good tool doesn't cost money, it makes money.

PicoScope is a good tool. Of course it doesn't make money by itself. It requires a dedicated technician to go with it. One that is willing to practice and study and then put those lessons to practical daily use in the shop. It only makes money if you use it and attain some level of proficiency.

PicoScope is not more difficult than learning any scope. In fact, there are a lot of things that make it easier. Still though, patience and practice on cars that are not broken is required to become familiar enough to apply it to problem vehicles effectively.

application

Post by Autonerdz »

Hi Jorge,

I approved your application this morning so you should be good to go now. Thanks for joining us.

I never really explained why I recommended the four channel. You can get the job done with a minimum of two channels. Two is all you really NEED. However, you will find that four channels can be convenient and save time.

You mentioned the Mixmaster. This is suited best to the four channel because it has two signal outputs and a trigger. This is so you can split a waste spark system by bank and also trigger the capture so you can ID the cylinders. You can use the Mixmaster with a two channel, but you will not be able to split banks AND trigger. If you are getting a Mixmaster, then I would get the four channel scope.
