Third octave analyser

Post by russtafa »

I am interested in purchasing one of your high performance oscilloscopes primarily to view Video and audio waveforms.
I am also interested in the spectrum analyser function..
What I would like to do is find out if you have any third octave algorithms that can be run on your spectrum software.
I could then calibrate a microphone to test out the acoustic of the room and view any analogue outputs I want.
As a footnote being in ProAudio this would be very good to help setup Dolby 5.1 systems or similar audiophile systems.
Thanks
Russ

Hi Russ,
The best pure audio scope we have is the 16bit ADC216 but it would be too slow for video work. It is also parallel port and only available while stocks last.

For video, you would need something like the 12bit PS3224.

For the ultimate in speed you would need the 8bit PS5000 series.

Further advice

Post by russtafa »

Thanks for the info.
I am interested in either the 3000 or 5000 series scope.
As previously stated I do a mix of measurements including video and audio and hate to "buy down" and find later the 3000 scope is at its upper limit.
Need to justify the extra £600 price tag...
Any further advice greatl appreciated.
Cheers,
Russ

Hi Russ,
Your decision will hinge on whether the 10MHz frequency response of the 3224 is high enough for your needs. If it is, go for the 2 chan 3224 or the 4 chan 3424 12 bit scopes. If you need speed more than resolution, go for the 5203 250MHz, 8 bit scope. At present, the new PicoScope 6 software only runs on the 5000 series, but it will soon be available for the 3000 series as well.
Regards,
PeterF.
