Logging very intermittent events

Postby saifull » Mon Aug 02, 2010 11:38 am

I have just got some PL1000 and multiple sensors including switches. I need to log when the switches have opened/shut, but this may occur very infrequently eg 10 times a day, and I cannot afford to miss any of these events. I have read about triggering using 1 channel, but I actually want to log continuously the temperature channel, but only record actual events for the switches (I have only 2 switches to monitor). can I set up a single PL1000 to do this or will I have to use a logger per switch to ensure I record the received data ONLY from the switching events.
Would it be better if I wrote my own software that reads the logger very frequently but discards the switch data if nothing is happening?

You can only trigger on one channel, so you would have record the data and then discard the rest, which you can do if you write your own software as you correctly pointed out.
