Posted: Sun May 11, 2008 11:14 pm

I have been running a few simple tests after reading an article about lighting, which basically said that Metal Haliide bulbs give off more plant usable light than High Pressure Sodiums, and that horticulturalists are wasting money and power using hps in the flowering/fruiting stage of growth.

I decided to put this to the test, I have the two types of bulb at 600W, which is a bit bright for the light sensor on the DrDAQ unit.

So I took a couple of lenses off some sunglasses, wrapped them in 3 layers of white gaffer tape, and taped the lot over the light sensitive device on the DAQ. This proved to be an adequate filter, and brought the reading on the meter to around 60.

This is enough for my purpose, I don't need to know precise light levels, just relative levels.

first I measured the 600W hps from startup for 20 minutes and it settled down to a final reading of 60.9

Then I did the same for the 600W mh, expecting the reading to be a bit higher, as according to the article I read, but was surprised to find that it only gave me a final settled reading 48.8

I can accept that there maybe some slight difference in my test setups that could introduce error, for example when changing the bulb the reflector might be in a slightly different position, but I tried hard to replicate the same conditions, and am confident that the difference cannot be from setup.

So now I need to eliminate the next problem, the light sensor on the DrDAQ unit may respond differently to the two different lights, HPS is more at the red end of the spectrum, and MH has more blue.

So I need to know precisely what the component is on the DAQ, so I can find its tech specs.

Can you help?

Thankyou for reply
The sample rate would need to be continuous and high speed as i would like to see any pressure spikes the system may have. I may need to log up to 8 hrs of data in 1 test, or it could be just 1 hr. Also is there a limit to the number of pressure transducers i could have logging at the same time? If i also wanted to meassure temp and flow with say 4 pressure transducers, would i be able to do so simultaneouly with your loggers/software? I'm not sure which flow meter i would use at this time. But we find out soon.
Hi

I agree with chicola as I also have a Picoscope in the 3000 series. (3206)
I also lack possibilities for showing video signals.
Especially I would like to grab video lines.
As mentioned by Kapil, other scopes like TDS3xxx have these triggers.

Are there any plans for the 3000 to be able to use these kinds of triggers?

Best regards

How do you use more than 1 serial unit? Is there a way to daisy chain them?

If I use the USB model, I imagine that I would need a USB hub. Is that correct?
Hello Smynch,

From the account that you have given, the phenomenon be may be characteristic of noise type behaviour, perhaps as a result of a peak in thermal noise at the higher temperature.

If not already doing so, you may wish to try using a screened thermocouple, with the screen grounded. Try grounding the 'sending end' and 'receiving end' alternately.

Hi all,

I want to convert timebases like 10ms/div, 100ms/div and so on, to the timebase values as the pico3000dll requieres it. Unfortunally the dll uses mulitples of an sample intervall (in my case it's 10ns).
How can I do it? Had anyone of you done this before, and can help me a little bit?

Regards,
