Hi All,

been using my ADC 212-3 scope, with the latest automotive software 5.15.4 and just recently noticed what appears to be a software issue.

if you can tell me how I can attach a wave to this forum, to explain the situation, that would help.

the best way to be able to determine if a glitch is a real glitch, is not to have the software create one.( that is my assumption)

it involved using an Amp probe on channel A, and voltmeter leads on channel B, to check starter operation.

a 1000 Amp spike appeared at the trigger point, that sent me chasing my tail to find the reason for the problem.

Is this something that can be corrected with an update ?

must admit I have never seen this before, and have taken/made many such tests in the past.

Hi and thank you for your post.

As you mentioned it would be best if you could send the waveform so I can understand your problem. You can do this in two ways either:

Press the Prt Scr button on your keyboard (this will take a snapshot of your desktop), if you go into microsoft word and paste the copied image and attach the document to your post.

or

When in PicoScope click on File->Save As ->
choose a file name and then choose the format, I would recommend either
Data Files (*.psd) or
JPEG Files (*.jpg)

Hi Ziko,

Here is a file of a capture of a BAT/Starter/Alt waveform

at a short timebase, to dwell on the initial spike, it is rather a high Amp spike and wondered if it can be software related.

first question : what causes the spike ?

second question : the channel A and channel B samplepoints are in alignment, that does not make sense.

I have used 2 different Amp probes with the same results.

Hi All,

Problem with glitches aka "SPIKE." has been solved.

Electro magnets used in solenoids and other components usually induce a spike as the power is removed, the older vehicle I was dealing with even produced a large spike at turn-on, which caused me to chase my tail for a while.

with the helpful suggestions of my fellow PICO users, the source of the spike has been determined, and verified.
