Feels strange posting this in "Getting Started" as I have had my ADC212-100 for years. Anyway, to the tale:
I've been using my ADC212-100 for years on a variety of machines starting from 98 through 2k to XP, all on the parallel port - never a problem. I got a new laptop a few weeks ago - Compaq V5000 series with no parallel port (32bit XP SP2). I bought the Pico USB to parallel converter and complete failure. The driver seems to have loaded correctly, when the USB cable is plugged in "Pico Parallel Port" appears in System / Hardware under Universal Serial Bus controllers as I would expect (but no LED lit on the converter yet). When Picoscope is started the splash screen appears and then I get the usual noise for a USB peripheral being unplugged and the "Pico Parallel Port" disappears from the System / Hardware section (at this point the LED on the converter lights up). The computer then makes the noise for a USB peripheral being plugged in and the "Pico Parallel Port" re-appears in System / Hardware and then the error box appears telling me my ADC-212 is not connected (also at this point the LED on the ADC-212 goes out as well if it was on).
I have loaded the latest Picoscope software on two other machines with 32bit XP SP2 on them and they both work with the parallel cable but when the USB adapter is used I get exactly the same "not connected" problem. Is this a faulty USB to Parallel adapter or is there something else I should be aware of before I send this back.
(I have obviously tried altering the settings between the 4 USB-PP* entries in the "File/Setup/Converter" menu).
Thanks, Tim. |
