Save as CSV tuncates large datasets

Post by mike thomas »

When saving a capture containing more than 1M samples, the output is truncated to exactly 1M samples (1,048,576) when saving as CSV or text. The file save dialogue gives a plausible size estimate such as "saving a large file of approximately 76MB" but the file produced is a lot smaller, around 36MB for two channels.

I'm using Picoscope R6.8.10 and a 3404A scope but the problem is also present in demo mode so I doubt the model of scope is relevant.

Hi Mike,

Unfortunately this is expected behaviour.

PicoScope 6 has a limit on the number of samples that can be output to CSV or text,
as this is the limit of Excel.

Could you please email in to support@picotech.com,
where we can discuss this further.

Thanks,
Karunen

That is an unfortunate limitation - not everyone uses Excel and there is no reason to bind everyone to its limitations.
I will investigate using the matlab format output.

Hi,

Is there any update on this issue? I need to be able to save large amounts of data in a text file format.

I am currently using 6.10.2.2, will there be a build soon that fixes this? Or is there a easy work around available?

Thanks,
Mark

Hi,

Development are still looking at the best way to implement this.

What you can do it save to .mat and then using a third party tool or matlab to convert it into txt.

You can also email support@picotech.com and I can help you further there.

Kind Regards
