I want to operate my ADC-200/100 (having the parallel interface) on a new laptop with only USB ports. I am running Windows XP (yes!). I have looked through other threads in the forum but none seems to fit my problem.

When I plug my Pico USB Parallel Port adaptor in without picoscope running, it does not appear in Device Manager in the Universal Serial Bus Controllers list. It appears as an Other Device/USB Device, which is not active (a yellow "?" is displayed).

If I run Picoscope, it says the ADC-200 is not connected, of course.

How do I find the device driver, and what port do I select in the list in Picoscope, please?

The first thing you have to get working is the Pico USB-parallel adapter. You say when you plug it in without the ADC200 it does not appear in device manager.

When the unit is plugged in can you go to device manager and right click and then uninstall.

Then disconnect the Pico adapter form the USB port and then plug it in again. This should go through a hardware wizzard. If it asks you to STOP or "CONTINUE ANYWAY" choose "CONTINUE ANYWAY"

When I plug the Pico USB Parallel Port adaptor in, it DOES appear in the Device Manager as "Other Devices/USB Device". It does not appear in the long list of Universal Serial Bus Controllers in the Device Manager applicable to my laptop.
I have uninstalled it, as you asked, and then unplugged it. After plugging it in again, it re-appears in the Other Devices again, and no New Hardware Wizard is offered, so I can't do the last things you recommend (Stopping or Continuing).

However, I right-clicked on Scan for Hardware Changes, and - Hey Presto! - it's now in the list of USB devices in Device Manager, but with a yellow exclamation mark against it. If I had a driver, it might wake up!

The drivers are installed with the software, it may be worth uninstalling the software and then re-installing it.

Try the following as well,

1) Use a different USB port
2) Try a different USB cable
3) Try a different PC

If all fails then the unit will need to be sent back for repairs.

When the device had moved to the list of Universal Serial Bus Controllers (see my previous post), I again clicked on Scan for Hardware changes, and this time it went into the Found New Hardware Wizard, and I followed the instructions, as if I had the driver, and it all seems to have worked.

However, the PicoScope program couldn't find the ADC-200 device, so I decided to re-install the software, and select the USB version of the ADC-200 interface instead of the LPT1. Having done so, it all works.
