ADC-216 Windows 7 32 bit, 3rd party PCI Parallel Port

Postby RussT » Sun Aug 29, 2010 1:24 am

Hello,
I have ADC-216 Windows 7 32 bit, 3rd party PCI Parallel Port and latest software (just downloaded it today). PicoScope will not recognize ADC-216.

I tried every parallel port, even though the card it set to LPT1. I also tried selecting "use legacy support". Still no good. The ADC-216 works fine on an older PC with a built-in parallel port.

Any suggestions? I am OK with putting Win XP on this computer if it helps.

Russ :)

Hello Russ

Sorry to hear you are experiencing problems with your ADC 216.

There is an issue though with obtaining the specific adaptor as unfortunately not any normal adaptor will work this. You would need a Pico Technology Parallel to USB adaptor but unfortunately you can no longer purchase these through us at Pico Technology as we can no longer manufacture these adaptors because an essential integrated circuit is no longer available. Nor do we have any left for sale. You could try and purchase one through a third party i.e. a second hand one if you could source one but I must stress it has to be a Pico Technology Adaptor as the configuration is different from any normal USB to Parallel Adaptor.

I noticed you put your using a third party Parallel converter and this could be the problem in which your scope cant be recognised as it may not be compatible in some way or another. You can use a PCMCIA adaptor to Parallel port and we can’t guarantee that this will work but we have tested this device with varied models and it has worked but as it has not been tested with every model on the market for obvious reasons we can’t say it will definatly work.

Does your laptop have an Express card slot?

http://www.delock.com/produkte/gruppen/ ... 66220.html

or a PCMCIA card slot?

http://www.delock.com/produkte/gruppen/ ... 61612.html

You have to have the card plugged in when the laptop starts.

If you have a PC computer oppose to a Laptop you can also use a PCI Card to Parallel Converter.

http://www.delock.com/produkte/suche/De ... 89015.html

(The cards above are just for illustration, and although they work, they are just some of many available.)

Please also note that these solutions will only work with 32 Bit Windows Operating Systems. We cannot support parallel to USB converters in 64 Bit Windows Operating systems.

Please also ensure you have downloaded the correct version of Picoscope as the ADC 216 will only run in PicoScope 5.

You can find the Correct Software looking on the following link:-

http://www.picotech.com/software.html

REF: PicoScope 5

Note the latest version (31/08/2010) is PicoScope R5.21.2 for Windows XP SP2/Vista and Windows 7 (32 Bit)]

I hope this helps to answer your question :D

Kind Regards

Thanks for getting back to me Lee. I have a desktop computer, not a laptop.

Are there plug-in Parallel PCI cards that work? My computer does not have an onboard parallel port, so I bought a Lava Computer PCI-Parallel Port. Win7 recognizes the new LPT port, but Pico software does not.

Does this help?

Hi Russ

Thanks for getting back to me, As you have a PC computer oppose to a Laptop you can also use a PCI Card to Parallel Converter.

http://www.delock.com/produkte/suche/De ... 89015.html

(The card above is just for illustration, and although it work, they are just some of many available.)

Please also note that these solutions will only work with 32 Bit Windows Operating Systems. We cannot support parallel to USB converters in 64 Bit Windows Operating systems.

We have found the D-Lock Converter cards seem to work well as feedback from customers suggests they are ok. I had one in my Windows 7 Desktop PC/32 Bit and it was ok but again I cant say it will work for all machines but certainly worth a go.

I think the problem you are seeing is unfortunatly not all Parallel cards are compatible for some reason or another so really I would recommend trying a D-lock one as so far we havent had any reported problems with these.

Kind Regards

Lee :D

Hello Lee. UPDATE: The D Lock PCI card works great and I have the ADC-216 working perfectly.

Now, I just downloaded the latest PicoScope R6.5.64 software. Unfortunately this version does not see the ADC-216 on the parallel port. Any suggestions?

Thanks!
