Have problems to install PicScope on my LapTops. Have tried to install on two different PCs. Installing seems to be ok, but i get the message "no device detected". HW is PicoScope 2202 and sw is r5.16.2. Have also tried latest SW (6). Both PCs are running WXP SP3. Anybody who have tips/hint on how to solve this?

Most likely SP3 is causing the problem.
We had various USB-equipment that works fine with XP-SP2 but didn't work anymore once SP3 came in.
Remove SP3 if you still can and try again

SP3 should be no problem, I have this running at home with no problems and on multiple computers at work.

Just a few questions:

1) Do you have full admin wrights?
2) Check if the device appears in device manager under universal serial bus controllers.
3) If not Try installing the software again and ticking the box that install for other devices.

Thanks for repply.
Then i assume that SP3 is OK.

Answers to questions:
1: Yes I have admin rights
2:Device do not appeare in device manager. I don't get any questions when i plug in the PicoScope USB cable. (Red light in front on scope unit is on untill i start the PicoScope SW)
3: I have tried to tick the check box for "other device" without result.
I have tried two different SW versions with the same result.
SW 6.4.64 and 5.16.2

Some more information:
In the windows event log it is the following messages
Service Pico Technology Ltd USB Driver (picopp.sys) can not be started due to missing file.

Hmmm, try the following:

1) Plug in the device into the USB port.
2) Go to device manager, and see if you see under Other Devices a yellow exclamation mark.
3) If so then right click and uninstall
4) Plug in the unit again and go through the hardware wizzard, when it asks you to "Stop" or "Continue Anyway" select "Continue Anyway".

No progress, I don't understand what is going on. This Scope has worked on my desk top computers for years.
I have take a "work around" to solve my project. (Use another instrument)

Hi Erik,

Ensure, the files picopp.sys and picopp.inf are in the correct place, try deleting the key also try deleting a registry entry under regedit HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\USB\Vid_0ce9&Pid_1007 just in case it has become corrupt.

Picopp.sys should be found under C:\windows\system32\drivers\

whilst picopp.inf should be found under C:\windows\inf\

Hi! I also have problems installing my PicoScope 2203 on my laptop. It has been working before with XP. Then the included installation CD worked fine. Now I'm running Windows7. The computer doesn't recognize the USB device, And PicoScope 6 doesn't find it either.

That is odd because we have multiple computers here running Windows 7 with no problems (both 32 bit and 64 bit). This must be an installation problem, does the device appear in device manager.

I had similar problems to get my 3204 recognized.

Solution brought the de-installation of the "libusb" driver.
I former installed this driver to get some open source software
to work with an ATMEL programmer.

Overall i'm not very happy with the Pico USB drivers.
There are repeatedly hang-ups on the USB-port and i have to restart the pico-scope.

The problem is not with our drivers, it was a problem with the libusb driver, this has been apparently fixed and should cause no conflict any more. I would recommend having a look at the updated version.

I don't see any hardware listed in this thread. Maybe the issue is hardware?

You seem to have checked your OS.
I assume you have tried a complete uninstall - ran a registry cleaner and then re-installed.

Perhaps if you listed your hardware specs something may be of interest.

I suggest this as I run both Vista and Win7 with pico6
My standard Dell laptop 1525 runs this with no apparent problems such as you describe.

Whatever your problem it clearly isn't a general "laptop" issue.
