Hi,
I have a Picscope 2203, WinXP sp3 Picoscope version 6.3.43.0.
Every now and then on starting PicoScope software it just hangs whilst enumerating devices.
The USB scope is powered up (red led on) but nothing is happening.
Task manager shows Picoscope as active but not doing anything (cpu 0%)
This is a pain in the A** !!!
Have to completely restart PC before Picoscope will work again.
I can't keep doing this every 45 minutes !!

This also happens when PC put into hibernation and then woken up again, even if Picoscope is shut down in an orderly fashion.

It's just happened again and I've resisted putting a hammer to it.
any ideas what is happening ??

What are your computer specifications/model? If the software is hanging during enumeration typically there is a fault with PicoScope files, the driver files, or a .Net framework fault. I would go through and uninstall the PicoScope program. Next verify that the following folders are deleted:

C:\Program Files\Pico Technology\PicoScope6

C:\Documents and Settings\<insert you login user name here>\Local Settings\Application Data\Pico Technology

If this doesn't cure the hangup, uninstall and reinstall the drivers for the PicoScope under device manager and do a .Net framework repair.

I would also change out the USB cable to make sure that the cable is not intermittently losing connection.

As far as not being able to use the unit after entering hibernation, this is due to the computer shutting USB ports down during this time period. Under device manager, click on the properties on the USB hub that the PicoScope is using. Click the Power Management tab, and then click to clear the Allow this computer to turn off this device to save power check box.

Hi Richard,
I've followed all the recommendations you suggested, uninstalled picoscope, deleted the directories and repaired Net framework.
At the moment Picoscope is fine after a re-install. Let's see how long it lasts for !
I'm running WinXP sp3 on an AMD 3.4 Ghz, 2Gb memory.
Picoscope never hangs while running, it only seems to hang on startup.
Anyway, I'll let you know if this problem returns.

The problems appears to be thus:

Boot up PC,
plug in 2203
start Picoscope
All works fine

Then

I stop Picoscope (exit it)
unplug the USB in the back of the 2203
I put PC into hibernation mode (saves rebooting all the time)
After I've done something else ..
come back
Start PC (press power on button)
PC comes back from Hibernation fine
plug in the 2203
start Picoscope
Picoscope hangs .. enumerating devices
and stays there doing nothing ..

Pretty annoying when you've got many documents open and some technical web pages and you know you've got to reboot PC from scratch to get Picoscope working again

Phil,

Going by the steps that you are taking it sounds like your computer is experiencing issues returning from hibernation. Hibernation mode have been a sore spot with USB connected devices for many years now. Here is Microsoft's take on the issue: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/871233.
