with scope connected to the pc I cannot get the program to recognize the scope using the automotive program. it will recognize the standard p6 program. is this scope incompatible with the automotive program?1

Hi the do you mean the 3224? This is a general purpose scope and cannot be used with the automotive software. The automotive software works on the 3223/3423, 4223/4423 and ADC212.
