Hi,

I'm looking for a scope with a bandwidth of 100Mhz, sample rate of 1GS/s and a large memory depth. The Picoscope 5203 caught my eye.

Most bench scopes with large memory depth seem to be 5GS/s models, which are very very expensive.

A few questions:
1. Can I record 32mS of data at 1GS/s?
2. There are a few posts about spurious noise in the 100-150kHz range. I need this range to be clear. Has this problem been solved?

Hi and thank you for your post.

If you were to write your own software you will be able to achieve this, however using our software you have set time bases, so for example the closest time base is 2ms/division which will give you 1GS/s, the next time base at 5ms/division will sample at 500MS/s.

Could you explain further what you mean by this 100-150kHz spurious noise issue? Or where you did you see this?

Writing my own software is fine, I think that is a strong point of Picoscope compared to the cheaper DSOs which seem to have partially implemented interfaces.

and I have seen a few other problems with noise in this forum and others.

Is their a 5 year warranty on the 5000 series still?

Hi sorry for the delay, the forum was locked for a short while. To answer your question yes the 5000 does have a 5 year warranty.

I did a test with a 5000 on my desk and did some averaging for a couple of mins on the 199.7kHz range, using 1048576 bins and on the +/- 100 mV range as you can see that the you get -121.2dB. So there is no issue there.

So this may have been a fault with this particular customers unit.
