Can one of the channels for the PS3424 be used as a trigger and then carry on recording data for that chanel after the trigger has been used?

Hi and thank you for your post.

Could you clarify your question further please.

1)Are you using PicoScope or PicoLog or writing your own software?
2)What do exactly you mean by record? Do you mean start recording on a trigger event? or do you mean continue recording even though a trigger event has occurred? if none of these then what?

The more information you can provide the easier it will be to help you.

Kind regards

Sorry, I meant start recording on a trigger event. I wanted to check that data inputed into the channel used as the trigger event carries on recording data for that channel after the trigger event has occured. Can this be done with either or with both Picoscope and Picolog?

Hi and thank you for your post.

Could you describe to me what you are trying to measure, so I can get a better idea of your question. The more information you can provide the easier it will be to help you.

I plan to measure the performance of a pneumatic cylinder by measuring various parameters by the way of sensor transducers, e.g a displacement transducer. I need to be able to plot displacement, pressure, velocity and valve solenoid voltage with respect to time. In order to calculate response times I need to be able to measure the time between initial electrical signal of the solenoid and when the piston starts to move. For this testing I require four channels with one of the channels (solenoid electrical signal) acting as a trigger. Would the PS 3424 be able to perform this application? The sample time will be the time it takes for the piston to complete a single outstroke, or a complete instroke.

This application should be fine with one of our four channel scopes. You can trigger off any one of the four channels and at the same time display that channel.

The large memory buffer of the PicoScope 3424 scope makes it ideal for such timing applications.
