PicoLog crashes inevitably after some hundred samples at 1 sample/s. It simply freezes and stops logging. My hardware is

Serial TC-08
Apple MacBook with Win XP Pro SP2 (running boot camp)
VScom USB-2COM (USB to 2 RS232 ports adapter)

I've tried both R5.16.2 and R5.17.1 with no luck. With my desktop PC I have no trouble running R5.16.2.

Anyone with similar problems?

Could you send me your plw file so I can try and recreate your problem.
1) Did you have the graph view or spreadsheet open when doing the tests?
2 )After how long did it crash?
3) Is it repeatable?

Hi,
I have exactly the same problem, and also latest with the version 5.18. Is there an answer/solution to the problem?

The error occurs only when recording to a file. It doesn't matter if it is a local drive or not. The program crashes after a few or many samples, but it will at some time crash. Sample rate doesn't matter.

I am using Windows XP Prof. with latest updates. It used to work but not any longer.

it looks like the version 5.14 is stable and do not suffer from the crash problem.

I tried: Version 5.16.2, 5.17.1, and 5.18.0
OS: Windows XP Professional, 5.1.2600, SP2

I always get a crash sometime after I started the data recording.

If Version 5.14 works, could Pico makes it downloadable?

PicoLog using the TC-08 Logger (serial) crashes using my laptop.

I have used versions 5.16,5.20 and 5.21 but all experience the same problem. Tried another laptop of the same make (Toshiba Tecra) and experienced the same problems on the other machine.

Could you help me solve this problem please?

Hi Chris I have tried the same test and have had no problems on my computer I would suggest trying it on a different computer, possibly a desktop.

Try running it in win98 compabilitymode. It has worked for me when I had problems, worth a try.. Smile

Hi,
sorry, but first of all it is difficult to find a working Windows 98 computer today. And second: The software is supposed to run in Windows XP, so Pico Technology must find a solution to this. They may come and see our setup, if they can't see the problem.

Hi,
It is possible that your PC is not capable of supplying enough power via it's serial port to fully power-up the TC-08. This is becoming a common problem now with newer PCs.
The TC-08 draws it's power from the RS-232 line, it uses the following pins:-

3 TX - Data from the PC to the TC-08

2 RX - Data from the TC-08 to the PC

7 RTS - Held at a positive voltage (>7V) to power the TC-08

5 GND - 0V line

4 DTR - Held at a negative voltage (<-7V) to power the TC-08

If this is the problem you will need to either use a USB to serial converter in a USB port (they can supply the power needed) or make up a "Break-Out" box to be able to feed external power to the TC-08.
