Interested in the 3000 series and want to look at the demo first.

Just downloaded and successfully installed version 6 demo.

Double clicking icon gives "PicoScope encountered a problem and needs to close"

Running XP SP-2 and dotNet 2.0 was successfully installed directly from the MS site before installing PicoScope 6 demo.

Version 5 demo works just fine... so, what's up with version 6?

My concern is this may be par for the course for newly released PicoScope products.

I am new to the concept of DSOs and this is my first encounter with your product line... so am hoping there is a simple fix.

Thanks!

Hello guest,

The latest version of PS6 R6.0.15 is several releases along the line now, and if you have correctly installed PS6 and .NET Framework 2.0, then, the software should run OK.

Please reinstall or repair .NET framework and, reinstall the standard version of PS6 which will offer demo mode if no device is found when you open the application.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Ran the repair fcn for dotNet without incident.

Downloaded the latest version of PicoScope 6 (same as before).

Installed this using the "demo" option (same as before).

Got exactly the same result as before.

Tried removing PicoScope (via the PicoScope menu this time, instead of control panel).

Reinstalled it.

Same result.

Sorry this is not working.

This is a long term stable XP system with no history of install issues until PicoScope... so I don't know where to go from here.

My guess is there's a glitch in the Registry from the first install attempt using your version of dotNet 2.0 that is not completely remediated by uninstalling PicoScope... and this is what is causing the problem.

In the old days (prior to XP) tech support would be able to walk us thru RegEdit and file removal processes to remove the last vestigial elements of a rogue install session.

I'd be happy to work with you on this, because the product looks useful and well designed (except for the install process for ver. 6.).

Thanks again for any help.

Hello guest,

Installation and operation of the software in Demo mode is usually trouble free, therefore, please ensure that you have full administrator rights on the PC.

Use the Pico unistall programme's to remove all Pico software from your PC, and then perform a search for any remaining 'pico' files (ensure that 'show hidden files' is enabled), which should then be deleted.

Uninstall .NET framework (this is from Microsoft, not a Pico), and then downloaad and install .NET framework 2.0 from Microsoft website.

Install PS6 and try again.

Thanks for your help.

Tried the suggested steps with the same result.

Then tried some alternate approaches, to no avail (most, such as "repair PicoScope" led to dead end error popups)

Still believe this is a Registry issue resulting from the initial full install (that installs dotNet Framework 2.0 from within your installation process).

So if you can't provide a guided Registry fix, it looks like we are done for now.

PicoScope6 appears to have potential, so I'll stop back in a year or so (after the dotNet linkup issues have gotten enough airing here to be defined and patched)

Good luck on this.

Hello guest,

I am not aware that this particular manifestation has been reported by any other user, and, our software does not modify your registry. Further, our software does not mediate the installation of Microsoft .NET Framework.

If you believe that your registry has been altered in some way, then the problem lies elsewhere.
