We are currently using a tc-08 with welded tipped glass fibre insulated thermocouples to take surface temps of the inside of ovens. We are getting readings which after 100seconds or 130 degs jump up by 50degs.
When taken with a hand held device the temps are normal. Can you recomend a thermocouple to attach to metal which will not jump.

Hi,

There is no reason that the thermocouple should be reading incorrectly except under the following conditions:

The thermocouple is faulty, have you tried a different one?

Can you tell me what you are attaching the TC-08 to ... laptop/PC.

If you are attaching it to a laptop it could be noise interference from the mains, as laptops are not usually earthed. The solution to this would be to earth the TC-08 from the 9D Connector to a known and tested grounding point. You should use an earth tester to check the ground.

A possible other reson for these readings is that the oven's ground is not good. Again this should be tested.

Best regards,
