Whenever I inadvertently click on the scope, I get a measurement cursor. I haven't learned the best way to remove them. In trying to drag them off the scope face I crashed Picoscope several times. This is very inconvenient since XP Pro on my installation will not close Picoscope after it crashes. It only wants to send Microsoft a message. Cntrl Alt Delete doesn't work. The only way to restart Picoscope is to restart the computer, and in one instance it was necessary to reinstall Picoscope.

Is there any way to disable the measurement cursors when they are not in use?

Hi, you should not be getting this problem.

There is no way to get rid of the cursors, which version of the software are you using? What product are you using? What steps are you talking for this problem to occur?

Roger,

I can't help you with your crash issue but....

In PicoScope 5, it is easy to click on the screen and put up an unintended measurement cursor. Simply click on the cursor and hit the delete key on your keyboard to remove them.

Hi thanks, yes like you said you can remove it by hitting on the delete key on PicoScope 5.

Roger which version of the software are you running, if you click on the help option at the top of the screen and then click on about it will give you the release version. For PicoScope 5 the latest version is 5.16.2 and for PicoScope 6 the latest beta version is R6.0.8.


I would recommend to remove the software and re-install it with the newer version if you have not got it already. Please use the following link for the latest software:

Blue screen of death - memory parity error
That's the gist of what I got while looking at some ~40mV noise on a model 3204- channel A only. 200ms timebase.
running version 5.16.2
driver version 3,2,4,0
I was incidentally busy reading the help-file when it did this.
Windows 2000 - powered from USB port (I have a USB card reader as the only other USB device at all on my machine)
HP wx4300 (Pentium 4) with 2GB RAM.

I am taking it that the parity error is a general H/W access issue, I last saw this one ages ago, this machine has never died on me in 6 months. Any clues, it looks like we have 2 almost identical systems with the same problem?

Replace the attached file with the old one, by default it should be on

c:\Program Files\Pico Technology\Pico Full

Yay. I only left it running for about 2 odd hours, but I did a bit of intensive setting fiddling, used long timebase and no crash so far. All is well in the end, but the first 2 days when we had not yet tried this patch did sour the new toy excitement a little with regular system deaths.

The 3204 is the right size for the kind of work we are doing, the 10Mhz sampling also just allows us to detect Full Speed USB traffic start-stop (connect/bus-resets) and see when signals start-end easily using the on-screen cursors, which are dead-easy to use in reality. I think the small box and Windows software U.I. is great. Some bits of the help need tweaking or expanding.

Not sure if this is on-topic or not, but here is another observation:

I found that on starting the PicoScope (with the latest DLL) it would run through the atages on the splash screen, then vanish - being left as a button in the toolbar.

No amount of clicking made it to reappear!

But, it would come up if it was selected to 'maximise'

But then on reverting to normal window view, it vanished.

Checking in the registry (another scary place, Conrad) I found a screen setting that was set to 0,0,1289,687 - now, my screen resolution is only 1280 by 1084 so it is just off-screen.

Changing the registry setting (and rebooting) had no beneficial effect, nor did deleting the odd PSD file (said it was running from NORMAL.PSD) but I finally found that it was recovered by deleting the default PSS file.

Query - could the PSS file format be revised to be human-readable instead of magic binary?

The Windows registry might be scary to some, but after 10 years of hacking at it, if it fails, simply re-install the application. Smile Glad that editing it was easy in the end.
The crashes I was having are a thing of the past Smile In fact I just spend some time using the APIs, got a fresh compiler installed and a fully working application in only about 3 hours of hacking.
