Hi i recently bought the ADC-11 USB and after installing the software on my laptop and connecting the device it does not seem to want to install the hardware. It gets to the point where i tells you its not on the Microsoft list and after clicking 'continue anyway' it comes up installation failed. I tried installing it on a desktop to see if it is the software it worked fine. Any idea why it is not working on my laptop?

The software is R.33

Thanks,

Hi

When you say it "fails anyway", what exactly does it do? Does it rollback? If so then this is an issue that we are aware of and our next release in March will contain a fix for this.

Best Regards

I'm not sure what you mean by 'Rollback' all it does is come up with a message saying 'the installation has failed to install your hardware'.

Hi

Ok, then this is a different issue. Firstly, upgrade to version 5.15.6 from our website, then try the hardware install again.

Let me know how you get on with this.

Best Regards

Thank you for the response, i have tried downloading the software from your website but i still seem to have a problem. I'll try and explain exactly what happens.

When it tries to install the hardware it looks like its transferring files and then it pops up the message about windows approved list so i 'continue anyway' and it finishes with a message of

"There was a problem installing this hardware

Pico USB ADC11

An error occurred during the installation of the device

The system cannot find the file specified"

I then tried to open picoscope and it looks as though its opening and the progress bar gets to the end but then it crashes and the microsoft error report pops up saying

"psw32.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close"

If you need anymore info to try and help me just ask.

Thanks for the help,

Hi and thank you for your post.

Could you check in the following locations for:

C:\WINDOWS\inf for picopp.inf and the date of the file

also

C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers for the picopp.sys file, could you check which version you have (right click and choose properties)

Kind regards

Thanks for the reply,

The PICOPP.inf file was created on 20 November 2006 and has version 01/01/2006, 1 . 11 . 0 . 0

The picopp.sys file was created on 16 June 2006 and version 1 . 12 . 0 . 0

Hopefully this is what you need.

Could you do the following:

If you are using windows XP make sure you have admin rights.
When it asks you to find the driver automatically, try to do it manually and Browse in the following directory:

c:\WINDOWS\inf\

and the file you would look for is the picopp.inf

Let me know how you get on.

Kind regards

I tried searching the c:\WINDOWS\inf\ folder and even pointed to the picopp.inf file but it still comes up the same message.

"There was a problem installing this hardware

Pico USB ADC11

An error occurred during the installation of the device

The system cannot find the file specified"

Thanks

Hi could you go into device manager and take a screen shot of what you see under Universal Serial Bus Controllers. Also if you see, Pico USB ADC11 or unknown USB device, right click on the icon and choose properties, click on the details tab and also take a screen shot of that. Attach these images in the reply to this post, If you need assistance on how to do that then let me know.

Kind regards

Hi,

Thanks for the information, One of our software engineers has had a look at this and it is as expected the device vid and pid are correct. The exclamation above the usb device implies that the driver has not been installed for it.

Could you send the following files :
c:\WINDOWS\setupapi.log

and

c:\WINDOWS\inf\layout.inf

Kind regards

Ziko,

I have just received a picoscope 3224 and I tried installing that with the software CD that came with it and it installed fine so I tried to install the ADC-11 again and for some reason it is now installing the device no problem and I can now use it with the piscoscope software.

Thanks for all the help anyway, it was appreciated.

p.s. If you require anymore info to explain why this happened I am willing to help.
