Hi John,

It depends if its a switch or a sensor. Unfortunately, I'm unable to give you vehicle specific data.

The switch normally has 3 wires. One wire with a supply and the other two wires are return signals to the ECU to indicate when the throttle is at IDLE or WOT. Basically the switch only tells the ECU if the throttle is at IDLE, WOT or somwhere in between.

The sensor is a simple potentiometer, it has 3 wires, a supply, a ground and a return signal to the ECU. the return signal will carry a voltage proportional to how much the throttle is open. The waveform should look like this,

On a 'fly by wire' system there is usually an accelerator pedal position sensor with 6 wires. Its essentially two sensors (two potentiometers) working together for safety reasons. The waveform would look like this,

Hope this helps,

Ric
