How do I install Pico software and hardware for the first time?
Installing Pico Software and User Manuals under Windows XP SP2 & Vista For Data Loggers, Oscilloscopes and EnviroMon1) Do not connect the Pico device to the PC yet!
2) Insert the Pico CD into the CD-ROM drive. If it does not start automatically then follow the steps below to 'Start the CD manually'.
3) If you are connected to the Internet, click 'Check for software updates' and click on the 'Download PicoScope / PicoLog' or 'Download PicoScope 6' button and follow the on-screen instructions.
Note: PicoScope 5 and PicoLog are installed at the same time, whereas, PicoScope 6 is installed separately.
4) Click the 'Install Software' button and follow the on-screen instructions to install either PicoScope and PicoLog or EnviroMon.
5) Restart the PC when installation has completed.
To start the CD manually:
a) Click the Windows Start button and select 'Run...'
b) Type D:pico (where 'D:' is your CD-ROM drive letter)
c) Press the Enter key
Installing Pico USB products under Windows XP SP2 & Vista
1) Ensure that the appropriate Pico software is correctly installed before connecting the product to the PC USB port for the first time.
5000 Series only:
Fit the appropriate mains power adaptor to the power supply unit and plug the adaptor into a mains power outlet. Plug the lead from the power supply unit into the back of the oscilloscope and then switch on the mains power.
2) Connect the Pico device to a USB port on your computer using the cable provided and ignore any warnings that appear such as 'This device can perform faster' or 'USB2 device connected to USB1 hub'.
3) The Windows 'New Hardware Found Wizard' will run. Follow the on-screen instructions and, if the wizard asks to connect to Windows Update, select 'No' and allow Windows to automatically detect and configure your hardware product.
Note: During installation, if Windows displays a warning message about Windows Logo testing, please click 'Continue Anyway' to complete the installation.
With some products, the 'New Hardware Found Wizard' will run twice. If that occurs, please repeat step 3).
4) Please refer to the appropriate user manual on the CD for instructions on how to configure PicoLog and PicoScope. The manuals may also be viewed or downloaded in PDF format from the Pico website (http://www.picotech.com/document/).
Installing the Pico USB parallel port adapter
The USB parallel port adapter is supported only by Windows XP SP2 and Vista. It is designed for use with Pico parallel port products only, and cannot be used with printers or other peripheral devices.
1) IMPORTANT: Ensure that the appropriate Pico software application is installed BEFORE connecting the adapter to your computer for the first time, AND, that you tick the box 'Install for other devices' together with the Pico device selected during the software installation process.
2) Once the software installation is completed correctly: Connect the USB adaptor to a USB port on your computer using the cable provided and ignore any warnings that appear such as 'This device can perform faster' or 'USB2 device connected to USB1 hub'.
3) The Windows 'New Hardware Found Wizard' will run. Follow the on-screen instructions and, if the wizard asks to connect to Windows Update, select 'No' and allow Windows to automatically detect and configure your hardware product.
Note: During installation, if Windows displays a warning message about 'Windows Logo testing', please click 'Continue Anyway' to complete the installation.
4) Windows will detect the adaptor as 'Pico USB-PP parallel port' or 'Pico Parallel Port'
Configuring the Pico USB parallel port adapter
If PicoScope or PicoLog have already been set up with a direct parallel port connection, reconfigure for the USB adaptor as follows:
PicoScope:
1) Start PicoScope and choose 'File | Setup | Converter'
2) Select your Pico device, and then set the Port to 'USB-PP1' and click on OK
3) Restart PicoScope and your computer will be reconfigured to work with your PicoScope.
PicoLog:
1) Start PicoLog and configure as usual.
2) Select 'USB-PPx' (USB-PP1 for one device, USB-PP2 for second device, etc) as the Port.
3) Your computer will reconfigured to work with your Pico logging device.
