AC measurement

Hi, i want to know why measuring AC voltage, the component must connected to ground?anc what will happen to the voltage magnitude and phase if it's not connected to ground?

Hi,
The scope inputs are themselves referenced to ground and the screen is connected to ground via the PC earth. You can use a fully differential probe to enable you to measure voltages floating wrt earth. That is by far the safest way to measure anything that has live mains voltage. Even the neutral wire in a mains system is not guaranteed to be at earth potential.
