1. FirstLook Automotive Diagnostic Sensor
The FirstLook sensor is designed to work with an oscilloscope to quickly measure the "health" of an engine.
By mapping pressure waves in the exhaust pipe, the FirstLook engine diagnostic sensor can quickly spot compression problems, exhaust valve problems and give a quick indication of the overall health of the engine.
Connected to the fuel pressure regulator the sensor can test injector operation and connected to the inlet manifold, you can find vacuum problems including those related to inlet valves.
The product is ideal for fault diagnosis on all petrol and diesel engines whether in bikes, cars, boats, planes or trucks.
Although the sensor can work with any modern scope, we have added full support for the sensor into PicoScope PC Oscilloscope software.
2. New Catalogue
In July, we published our new 44 page catalogue. This was sent by post to all recent customers.
If you have not received a copy, and would like to do so, please fill in the online form or contact your local distributor.
3. Technical Tip — Reducing Noise in Oscilloscope Measurements
In normal operation PicoLog data logging software collects up to 1 million readings in one data file and then stops.
There are however a number of options to decide what happens at the end of a run, these are selected from Settings | Recording within PicoLog Recorder.
Repeat immediately is useful when you need to collect more than 1 million readings, or wish to have several smaller files (one per day for example)
Repeat after delay is useful for taking snapshots of data, a typical use would be collecting one minute of high speed data every hour.
Scroll mode discards the oldest samples, this is useful if you only wish to have a record of the most recent data.
4. New Science Experiment
Our library of science experiments for data loggers and oscilloscopes continues to grow.
New this month is a Biology experiment looking at the aerobic respiration of maggots . This experiment is aimed at 9 to 19 year olds and uses a DrDAQ data logger and an oxygen in air sensor.
