1. New Software Releases
New beta versions of PicoScope, PicoLog and EnviroMon software have just been uploaded to our web site. These new versions (R5.09.6) do not contain any new features, but do have a number of bug fixes to enhance stability.
Download the latest software free of charge.
2. New Application Note — Ultrasonic Echoes
This new application note from Measurement Specialities uses an ADC-212/100 PC oscilloscope connected to a piezoelectric polymer transducer to measure the volume of water in a cylinder.
By using the fast sampling and large buffer memory of the ADC-212/100, changes as small as 0.025% in volume of liquid can be detected.

4. Technical Tip — PicoScope Measurements and Alarms
PicoScope software has over thirty automated measurements available such as frequency, rise time, duty cycle, THD, SINAD etc.
These measurements are selected from the Settings menu and appear at the bottom of the oscilloscope or spectrum window. As well as displaying current values, it is also possible to display minimum, maximum and average values. Additionally it is also possible to set test limits and alarms, in this way it is possible for example to set an audible alarm to occur every time the rise time of a signal exceeds a certain threshold.
More information on measurements can be found in the PicoScope help file.
5. New Science Experiments
Early in 1800 William Herschel, musician, turned astronomer and discoverer of the planet Uranus, was experimenting with sunlight, a prism and a thermometer to measure the amount of heat in different colours of the spectrum. He found that the greatest temperature was reached beyond the red end of the spectrum. We now call these invisible heating rays Infra-Red radiation.
This experiment has now been repeated using a DrDAQ data logger, slide projector and a prism.
See this and over sixty other interesting and educational at the
Pico library of science experiments for data loggers and oscilloscopes
