1.  New Release: PicoScope 5000 SDK

We have just released a brand new Software Development Kit for the PicoScope 5000 series PC Oscilloscopes. This kit allows you to control all the features of our powerful 1 gigasample-per-second oscilloscopes from your own programs. It includes drivers, example programs in C, LabVIEW and Delphi, and detailed documentation on all functions.

2.  New Application Note: Using EnviroMon to Log Data Remotely Through 2 GSM Modems

With EnviroMon, our environmental monitoring and data logging system, you can remotely log data to your PC through two GSM modems. Our new application note explains how to use Wavecom Fastrack M1306B modems, but the method works with other models.

3.  PicoScope 5000 Series News

New features

We are busy adding new features to the PicoScope 6 software so that you can get the most out of your new PicoScope 5000 Series scope. Here are the improvements in the latest release:

• Advanced triggering, part 2: window, drop-out and logic triggers, and adjustable hysteresis.
• Demonstration mode: try PicoScope 6 before buying a scope.
• Long timebase mode: an extra-long 200 second/division timebase has been added, so you can capture data continuously for over half an hour.
• MATLAB 4 export: save waveform data for direct import to MATLAB.
• Axis scaling: set scale and offset independently for each channel.

PicoScope 5000 Questions and Answers

Q. Does the PicoScope 5000 allow concurrent operation of the scope and arbitrary waveform generator?

A. Yes. You can feed the output of the signal generator into an external circuit, and then view the output of the circuit using the oscilloscope's input channels. The signal generator is completely independent of the input channels.

Q. Is there an export capability for oscilloscope and spectrum analyser data?

A. Yes. Go to the File menu and choose the Save Current Waveform As command. This gives you a choice of output formats, including text formats that you can import into a spreadsheet, graphical formats that you can include in reports, and a standard MATLAB 4 binary format.

4.  Automotive News

Free automotive catalogue and CD

The 2007 Pico Technology automotive catalogue and CD are available now. The catalogue is in full colour and has photographs, specifications and prices for all our automotive products. The CD-ROM contains a copy of the PicoScope Automotive software, together with automotive tutorials, articles and waveforms, details of Pico automotive diagnostics products, and the PicoScope Automotive Oscilloscope Video Guide. Almost one hour long, this video guide explains what an oscilloscope is, why you need one, and how you can run simple tests and take measurements.

Training course

Engine Management Diagnostics using PicoScope
Kingston College, London, UK
12-13 July 2007

The ‘Engine Management Diagnostics using PicoScope’ training courses are run on behalf of Pico Technology by experienced instructors assisted by Pico automotive experts. The two-day course teaches you how to diagnose electrical and mechanical automotive problems using a Pico PC-based automotive oscilloscope. The time is divided between classroom-based tuition and practical, hands-on learning using engine rigs. You will receive a pack of detailed notes to remind you of all the subjects covered in the course.
