1.  New Product — Automotive Diagnostics Kit

Pico Technology are proud to announce the launch of the next generation of Automotive Diagnostics.

The Pico Automotive Diagnostic Kit can be used to measure and test virtually all of the electrical and electronic components and circuits in a modern vehicle including: ignition (primary and secondary), injectors and fuel pumps, starter and charging circuits, crank and cam sensors, lambda, airflow, knock and map sensors.

The diagnostic kit is based around our high resolution PC based scope (ADC-212/3) and a powerful software / information package. It comes complete with all the probes, clips and leads needed to measure signals from the modern vehicle.

The kit is ideal for a wide range of users including OEMs, franchised and non franchised garages, breakdown / roadside recovery organisations and mobile tuning/repair services. This powerful and flexible kit has been designed for ease of use, and so is suitable for both novice and experienced users.

Pricing of the kit starts at only £599 (approx $900 / €930). Existing automotive users of the ADC212/3 oscilloscope can upgrade to the full kit by purchasing the software and component parts.

Alan Tong, Pico's Technical Director comments “Never before has such a powerful diagnostics package been available in this price range and we expect the kit to turn the market for automotive diagnostics on its head.”

Full information on the diagnostics kit can be found at

2.  New software — R5.08.3 Beta Release

Last month we announced that new beta versions of PicoScope, PicoLog and EnviroMon software were available for free download from our web site. Thank you to all of those who downloaded the software and gave us comments. As a result of this feedback we have made some minor bug fixes and uploaded R5.08.3.

The main improvements in R5.08 are as follows:

PicoScope

  • Sampling rate increased to 5GS/s for repetitive signals*
  • Faster download of data from oscilloscope to PC*
  • New min / max display mode
  • Ability to save waveforms as .jpg files
    * ADC212/50 and ADC212/100 only

PicoLog

  • Support for longer equations
  • Ability to save waveforms as .jpg files

Enviromon

  • Ability to save waveforms as .jpg files
  • Support for up to 6 alarm time ranges
  • Support for longer alarm hold off periods

Please note that R5.08.2 is a beta release. As such it has not been fully tested and may contain bugs.

3.  New Product Update — Mains Power Monitoring Kit

More information on our new EL040 power monitoring kit is now available on our website at:
http://www.picotech.com/current_monitoring.html

4.  Technical Tip — Using Multiple Products on the Same PC

It is possible to use more than one converter on a single PC and display all channels with the same copy of PicoLog. For example if you need sixteen channels of temperature measurement, use two eight channel TC-08s on the same PC. Different products can also be mixed on the same PC, for example a TH-03 could be used at the same time as an ADC-200.

Multiple-converter operation is available only in 'Real time continuous' mode. Each converter must have a separate port: you can use either standard serial/parallel ports or our USB adapters

To configure PicoLog to use multiple converters:

  • Choose File|New Settings
  • Check the 'use multiple converters' box
  • Continue the set up process in the normal way

5.  New Science Experiment

Our library of science experiments for data loggers and oscilloscopes continues to grow. New this month is a physics / electronics experiment investigating the switching currents and voltages in pulse width modulation circuits used to drive DC motors.

See this and 60 other interesting and educational experiments at:
http://www.picotech.com/experiments/index.html

If you are interested in contributing an experiment to our library, please contact experiments@picotech.com.

Currently we are most interested in new biology and chemistry experiments. To encourage people to submit experiments, we will donate a DrDAQ data logger or ADC-40 for each experiment we use on our web site.

6.  ADC-216 oscilloscope / spectrum analyser - special offer

Each month Pico Technology offers a different product at 15% discount for orders placed through e-commerce. For details of this months special offer, follow the link below:
